   LS Series Lap Splicers

The Cornerstone of KTI

Since the beginning, the LS Splicer has been an essential part of the KTI product line and the basis of KTI's success and rapid growth. The combination of it's rugged construction, simple mechanical design, and high performance electronic controls provide a cost effective, reliable splicer of unparalleled value. With the development of unique features for special applications, the LS has established itself in a variety of industries. Today many of its same successful features and design concepts can be found integrated into the entire range of KTI products.

Direct Loading Eases Operator Work Load

KTI has made loading of rolls as easy, quick, and safe as possible. The electric dual chain hoist allows direct access to both upper and lower roll positions. The hoist controls are conveniently located on a vertical member that traverses with the hoist...and won't swing out of reach!

Splice Prep is Fast and Easy

KTI's Standard 4-roller splice head requires only three simple steps:

  1. Operator places new web onto appropriate vacuum roller and trims excess paper
  2. Double faced adhesive tape is applied to end of web.
  3. The vacuum roller is then rotated to pre-determined position

The new roll is now prepped and ready for the next splice.

Automatic Drive Engage/Disengage Simplifies Loading

Special attention has been paid to minimize operator involvement during this process. By pressing the "auto" button on the control panel, the brakes are automatically engaged to the coreshaft and the hold down wheels are automatically brought into position. Also, vacuum is automatically applied to the appropriate nip roller. After a splice is made, the drive is automatically disengaged, allowing loading of a new roll with no manual intervention.

Automatic Brake Puck Selection Precisely Controls Running Roll Dynamics

KTI Splicers treat the unwinding of a roll as a very serious and vital part of a splicer operation. Since the dynamics of this system change as the roll unwinds, the splicer automatically adjusts to these changes.

To accommodate constantly changing torque requirements, KTI's integral logic automatically shuts off brake pucks as required to keep the system tuned. In addition, the system gain is changed as roll end approaches to further assure system stability.

Operator Control Panel Features Integral Diagnostics

KTI controls are simple and straightforward, but sophisticated enough to provide all the information and control required. The control panel features running roll display and selection, automatic mode, manual splice mode, full/half web selection, splice diameter selection and web tension control. The controls also provide for self-contained diagnostics, allowing the operator to check most splicer functions from the control panel, and without the need for test equipment.

Behind the controls is the "brain" of KTI splicers... the simple microprocessor board assembly that so completely automates these splicers.

Low Riding Festoon Minimizes Wrinkling and Web Weave

When unwinding paper before the splice diameter is reached, the floating rollers in the festoon run approximately 3 feet above the floor. This minimizes web span related problems such as wrinkling and web weave. It also allows a high speed panic stop rate without subjecting the core to excessive torque which can sometimes cause roll-to-coreshaft slippage. Just before the splice, the festoon slowly rises to the top, allowing full use of available storage. This system is an integral part of the splicer logic. This allows operation of the festoon in a manner best suited to your particular application.
